In Memory of Michael A. Skovira

Michael A. Skovira, Joey’s Uncle Mike, was a tanker in WWII and Joe loved his stories. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Joseph J. Theinert Memorial Fund and Strongpoint Theinert Ranchwhich support active and veteran service members, their dependents and caregivers, and military and Gold Star families.

Strongpoint Theinert Ranch (STR) is  a place where active and veteran service members, their families, and Gold Star families can come together to strengthen, transition, and reconnect on a 1,000-acre former cattle ranch in remote Magdalena, NM. STR is run by the family and friends of 1LT Joe Theinert who was killed in action during combat operations in Afghanistan on June 4, 2010. All guest expenses, including round-trip travel, meals, and equipment, are underwritten by the Joseph J. Theinert Memorial Fund. We have hosted over 10 retreats and 80 guests so far including active and veteran service members from the Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, and Marine Corps and Gold Star mothers and fathers. We are proud of what we have accomplished so far, but know that we can do more.

Currently, Strongpoint Theinert Ranch guests stay in Joe’s family home, but we are committed to expanding our reach. We have set a goal to raise $300,000, which would allow us to build a “bunkhouse” on family donated land. The 2,600 square foot bunkhouse will have 6 bedrooms, 6 bathrooms, a full kitchen, a great room, and give us the capacity to host up to 20 guests at a time. We have already raised $259,000. Please help us reach our goal and secure funding to break ground by December 2019. Learn more here.
